Subj: Have overwintered perennials in large containers before, but not shrubs. Do you treat these the same? Boxwood, almond, pierris shrubs planted in very large containers. Can boxwoods remain in grassy area?Moving them by the house would be all shade. Only alternative is carport, but no sun. thank you.
You did not mention the type of container and whether the containers are cold resistant. Terra cotta containers cannot handle the winters, they crack and split. If the containers are large and the shrubs are hardy, they should be okay. Move all to an area near your house but not under an eave so they can receive moisture through to the early spring. It may be a good idea to call and speak to a horticulture consultant M-F from 8-1 at 1-800-342-2507 for more information.
